Moodle Course Creation

A course on Moodle is created upon the instructor’s request. The required parameters for an administrator to input are:

  • Course full name (sample full name: EECE210 – Electric Circuits – Sect.1 (J. John))
    • The title between dashes is taken exactly copied from the table’s TITLE column AUB_SWVCRN_DTL existing in AUB_sis_Courses database

  • Course short name (sample short name: EECE210_jj12)

  • Course ID number (a string convention that internally matches the course against groups containing users in external systems, e.g. MS Active Directory)
    • Every course (entity) existing in the banner system has an identifier present in the object unit “AUBRG-ACC-STD-AUTO” available at win2k.aub.edu.lb/AllGroups/Security Groups/Resource Groups/AUB Resources Groups/AUBRG_ACC/

    • Each identifier (course ID) is of the format course code_number_section#_username (sample: EECE_210_4_jj21)
      • Some IDs cover multiple sections for an instructor having username as jj21 (sample: EECE_210_M_jj21)
      • To cover all sections for EECE210 course, its ID is formatted as EECE_210_A

    • Descriptions for each group are of the format YYYYXX-CRN where YYYY is the latter number of the academic year and XX represents Fall, Spring or Summer of codes 10, 20 or 30 respectively and CRN represents the course registration number (sample: 201830-32455 references the course with CRN: 32455 offered in Summer semester of the academic year 2017-2018)
