Public vLabs

Tags vLabs

AUB's virtual computer labs, known as vLabs, allow students to access lab software anywhere, anytime, and from any devices, on or off campus. It is like students going to a computer lab without leaving home or the dorms so that they can do coursework or projects at their convenience.

Shared Applications

The best and recommended user experience applies to some software titles which are available directly and behave as if they have been installed on the student’s own machine, without the need to login to a virtual machine.

The software library features titles such as MS Project, MS Visio, SPSS, Matlab, ANSYS Workbench, ANSYS Fluent, LabVIEW, Aspen HYSYS, SolidWorks, etc.

For convenience, the students who use shared applications are automatically provided with 5GB of persistent storage to be used like a “locker”, and all data in the lockers are deleted at the end of each term.

Note: The availability of each of the titles to the student depends on license entitlement and student needs. Students may request access to additional software titles by contacting it.helpdesk@aub.edu.lb

Virtual Computers

Just like computer labs on campus, vLabs provide students with software ready to be used for learning, without the hassle of installing and activating the software on personal devices. Also like most computers labs, data locally saved on the virtual computer during the session is automatically deleted afterwards.

Depending on their major, students may have access to more than one virtual lab with different specialized software installed.

Note for the faculty: Public vLabs have limited seats and are not intended for class instruction or exams, please contact your faculty’s IT manager or the course’s instructional designer if that is what you need.

Physical Computers

Under certain conditions, certain specialized physical computer labs are made accessible to the students through vLabs to enable remote access. This also enables for example partner students who are jointly working on the same machine and conducting an experiment on the connected scientific hardware.
